For years, The100Hands has been exploring how small everyday interactions tell an unexpected story about people and society. In 2025, with dancers, audiences and residents of Breda, we explore the different meanings that 'leaving and coming back or returning' can have in a human life. In the Open Door Breda project, we open the door of our studio to diverse groups of people, but schools and community centres also open their doors. All these encounters lead to the performance Waar je uitkomt als je weggaat in autumn.

About Open Door Breda

Every day we are on the move from one thing to another: from your bedroom to your bathroom, or from home to work, school, family, friends, a party or further destination. As our bodies move from one space to another, we can be connected non-stop via tech and apps, and if you follow the news, you can often conclude that what you do here has consequences there. So what does going away mean today, for a child, an adult, a newcomer, a dreamer, parents or elders? How do we deal with being alone and making contact? And how can we practice arriving and being present somewhere again?

With movement, interaction and humour, The100Hands seeks answers to these questions, because we believe that the body and our intuitive impulses and reactions can tell us a lot.

Open Door Breda is a relaxed encounter, in which physical and theatrical scenes form the starting point for a joint conversation and investigation: three dancers find each other in a space full of doors and invite you to discover the meaning of “leaving and coming back” in your life while watching and living with them. Afterwards, we will have an informal conversation with each other, led by creator Jasper Džuki Jelen. We will have a conversation in Dutch and translate into English where necessary.
